Understanding & Treating Low Sexual Desire and Desire Discrepancy

  • 12 Steps

About

Sexuality is an important part of the human experience, yet many therapists receive limited training in how to address sexual concerns with clients. Low sexual desire and desire discrepancy are common concerns that can arise in individual and couples therapy, but clinicians may feel uncertain about how to navigate these conversations without reinforcing shame, pressure, or the idea that something is wrong with one partner. This self-paced training offers a sex-positive, biopsychosocial approach to understanding and treating low sexual desire and desire discrepancy. Designed for therapists across specialties, it provides foundational knowledge and practical tools to help clinicians feel more comfortable and competent addressing sexuality in their everyday clinical work. Participants will explore the difference between sexual desire and arousal, spontaneous and responsive desire, the Dual Control Model of sexual response, and the individual, relational, and sociocultural factors that shape desire. The training also introduces practical clinical interventions, including mapping sexual accelerators and brakes, navigating pursue-withdraw cycles, expanding definitions of intimacy, reducing sexual pressure, and introducing sensate focus. Two clinical case examples demonstrate how to apply these concepts in therapy. Refund Policy Due to the digital nature of our self-paced trainings and immediate access to educational materials, all sales are final once course access has been granted. Refunds are not provided for partially or fully completed courses, unused access, or changes in a participant's availability or interest.
