Sex Therapy

What is Sex Therapy?

Sex therapy focuses on helping individuals and couples address sexual issues and increase their capacity for pleasure, intimacy, and connection. Sexuality is a core part of who we are and yet, it is often ridden with shame, guilt, and negativity in our society. My goal is to help you understand, heal, and navigate the vast complexity of your sexual self.

Typically, sessions are comprised of talk therapy, psychoeducation, and embodied or somatic interventions. I also often incorporate EMDR when addressing sexual issues that involve trauma, pain, shame, or fear.

Sex Therapy can help with:

  • Low desire

  • Arousal and orgasm difficulties

  • Pain during sex

  • Performance and satisfaction issues

  • Sexual trauma

  • Anxiety and shame related to sex

  • Gender identity and/or sexual orientation

  • Issues pertaining to asexuality

  • Erotic exploration

  • Polyamorous relationships

  • Kink and BDSM

  • Infidelity and affairs

  • Mismatched sexual desire between partners

  • Out of control sexual behavior

Healing from Sexual Trauma

The first step of healing sexual trauma is surviving it. Common survival strategies include avoiding sex, avoiding feelings, dissociation, and numbing out with alcohol, drugs, and/ or compulsive sexual activity. However you’ve been surviving your trauma up until now is okay! My goal is to help you move from surviving to thriving so that you can reclaim your right to sexual pleasure and enjoyment

When working with clients to heal sexual trauma, I combine approaches from trauma-informed therapy with approaches from sex therapy. We will focus not only on addressing symptoms of PTSD, but also on helping you to become more in touch with your body's wants and needs and experience your erotic self.
